Praying with Our Hands

By Heather Pionke

We are so blessed here at the Little Light House, to not only be able to pray as a staff, but to be able to teach our children to pray. Over a decade ago, our curriculum team wrote our School Prayer. All eight classrooms pray this prayer with the students, at least once a day, beginning the day a child starts at the Little Light House. Using sign language, along with spoken words, while we pray, gives our students more than one way to communicate. Sign language at the Little Light House is a combination of ASL, Exact Signed English, and gestures. The students quickly start imitating the school praying in sign language; usually starting with “amen”. The spoken language often comes second.  Please enjoy our School Prayer!
